I usually do not prefer the words I type to be auto-capitalized, but this is the default behavior of macOS. That word is auto-capitalized when you add a full stop or a noun.
Turning off this feature as follows:
- Click on the Apple logo on your Mac.
- Select System Settings (Preferences if on macOS 12 or below)
- Now from the sidebar select Keyboard.
- Now click on Edit, next to Input Souce under Text Input.
- Now turn off "Capitalize words automatically".
- Click done!
