How to Know the Line Number on Windows Notepad App


The default text editor for Windows OS is Notepad, it may not be as sophisticated as Notepad++, however, you can still use it to get a lot of your work done.

The Notepad app does not have the option to display line numbers, however, you can know which line number you are on by keeping your cursor on a line to know its number by taking a look at the bottom left of the "status bar".

  1. Go to Menu: View
  2. Now click on "Status Bar"
  3. You should see it at the bottom of the Notepad window with line and column number details.
