If you are logged into a Ubuntu Server via SSH and want to know its version, you can take a look at the /etc/os-release file.
Example:# cat /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS"
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION_ID="22.04"
VERSION="22.04.2 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)"
VERSION_CODENAME=jammy

UBUNTU_CODENAME=jammy
As you can see, I have Ubuntu version 22.04.2 LTS
