Zhipu AI Released GLM-5

Chinese AI company Zhipu AI released GLM-5 on February 11, a 744-billion-parameter open-source model trained entirely on Huawei Ascend chips with zero dependency on Nvidia hardware.

The model scores 77.8% on SWE-bench Verified, approaching Claude Opus 4.5's 80.9%, and claims the top spot among open-source models on multiple benchmarks. GLM-5 uses a Mixture-of-Experts architecture with 40B active parameters per token and is released under the MIT license.

Zhipu's shares surged 34% in Hong Kong. The company, which IPO'd in January raising $558 million, had stealth-tested the model as - Pony Alpha on OpenRouter days before the official launch.
