If you come from a Windows background and will like to see a My Computer kind of alternative icon on the desktop, well you can have the Machintosh HD icon on the Desktop that will contain all the root level details from which you can navigate to all files and folders.

- Users
How to add Machintosh HD icon on Mac Desktop
- Open Finder,
- Go to Finder Menu: Preferences... (Settings.. if on macOS Ventura or later)
- Now check "Hard disks" under "Show these items on the desktop"
- Now you should have all your hard disks show on the desktop
