How to get Timestamp in Java Android Programming

Android APIs is as powerful as the JRE, so we have access to most of the classes that we have in JRE.

To get the current timestamp you can use the Date() from java.lang.util class. SimpleDateFormat can be used if you want to format the time as per your need.

Lets take an example to print the current time in DATE-Month-Year-Hours-Minutes-Seconds format.

SimpleDateFormat simpleDateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MM-yyyy-hh-mm-ss");
String format = simpleDateFormat.format(new Date());
System.out.println("date : "+ format);

Output : date : 10-11-2014-05-21-55
