Create Performance Point Dashboard in SharePoint


Description


Create dashboards, scorecards, and reports using PerformancePoint and SharePoint. Publish dashboards them to SharePoint site.

Solution


  • Create a new SharePoint List
    • Create a SharePoint list with following details (this is for reference purpose, you may create your own list with required columns and data)
    Create a SharePoint list with following details


    Open the Dashboard Designer and follow below steps

    • Create a new Data Connection
      • Right click Data Connections click New Data Source
      • Select Data Source Template when popup appears
      • Select Tabular List > SharePoint List > OK
      Select SharePoint List


    • Enter the parameters for the new Data Source as follows
      • Connection Settings
      • SharePoint Site � the URL of the SharePoint site where List is located
        SharePoint Site List � All lists
        List � List which is to be used
      • Data Source Settings
      • Authentication � Unattended Service Account
        Cache Lifetime � 10 minutes
      • Properties Tab
      • Name � Provide a meaningful name to the Data Source

      SharePoint DashBoard Designer
    • Click �Test Data Source� to make you are able to connect to SharePoint list
    • Test Data Source


      Save the Data source before proceeding

    • Important points while creating Data Connection in Dashboard Designer
      • Fact � Actual values (in simple terms)
        Dimension � Filters (in simple terms)
        To change column as Fact/Dimension
        Open the View Tab for the Data Source
        Click on Column name
        Click Column Type from the Properties on the right

    • To change column values calculation for Fact
      • Open the View Tab for the Data Source
        Click on Fact Column name
        Click Aggregation from the Properties on the right

      Create a KPI


      Right click Performance Point Content > New > KPI
      Select KPI Template when popup appears
      Select Blank > OK


      Select KPI Template


    • Give a meaningful name to the KPI
      Set the values as follows
        Actual
        Name � Actual
        Compare to � Blank
        Number Format � Currency (optional)
        Indicators � Blank
      Data Mappings
        Click existing value
        Click �Change Data Source�
        Select our Data Source
        Select a Measure � select �Sales�
        Click OK
        Calculation - Default
      Target
        Name � Actual
        Compare to � Actual
        Number Format � Currency (optional)
        Indicators � Click Scoring Pattern and Indicator to change (optional)
      Data Mappings
        Click existing value
        Click �Change Data Source�
        Select our Data Source
        Select a Measure � select �Target�
        Click OK
        Calculation - Default


    • KPI Settings SharePoint

    • Save the KPI before proceeding


    • Create a Filter


        Click the Ribbon Create > Filter Select Filter Template when popup appears
        Select Member Selection > OK
      Select a Filter Template SharePoint

    • Set the values as follows
      • Data Connection
      • Select the desired Data Source
      • Filter Dimension
      • Click Select Dimension Select Year Click Select Members Select Year values which you want to use in filter
        Select Display Method as required
        Click Finish


          DashBoard Designer Sharepoint

        • Save the Filet before proceeding
        • Create more filters the same way
        • Create a Scorecard


            Right click Performance Point Content > New > Scorecard
            Select Scorecard Template when popup appears
            Select Tabular > SharePoint List > OK

          Select ScoreCard Template


        • Set the values as follows
        • Data Connection
          • Select the desired Data Source
            Click Next
        • KPI�s
          • Click �Select KPI�
            Select the required KPI
            Click Next
        • Add Measure Filters
          • Optional
            Click Next
          Add Measure Filters
            Optional
            Click Finish
        • Give the Scorecard a meaningful name

        • DashBoard Designer Sharepoint


        • Save the Filet before proceeding


        • Create a Dashboard


        • Right click Performance Point Content > New > Dashboard
        • Select the required Template and click OK

        • Select Dashboard Page Template


        • Provide a meaningful name to the Dashboard
        • Optionally you may modify the Page name too
        • From the Details pane in the right
          • Expand Scorecards and drag-drop the scorecard on the Dashboard zone
          • Expand Filters and drag-drop the filter on the Dashboard zone
        • Click the dropdown on the Filter from the Dashboard and click Create Connection
        • Items
          • Send to Values � Select the Scorecard
        • Values
          • Connect To � Select Page
          • Score Value � Select Display Value

          Save the Dashboard


        • Right click on the Dashboard name from Workspace Browser
        • Click Deploy to SharePoint
          • Expand your site
          • Select the Dashboard where the Dashboard is to be deployed
          • Click OK

          Deploy

        • The Dashboard opens in SharePoint site


        • Create Performance Point Dashboard in SharePoint


          Change the Indictor for KPI


          Click on the KPI Select Target In the Thresholds section click Set Scoring Pattern and Indicator
            Scoring Pattern
              Scoring Pattern � Select from available options Banding method � Select from available options Click Next
            Indicator
              Available Indicators � Select desired Indicator Click Next
            Specify worst value
              Optional Click Finish
